Ummmm....so, it's illegal to place in a National Park?? I just
found one on the West Coast, also listed on the website, in a
national park! (I don't want to be too specific...wouldn't want
those "gendarmes" confiscating it!! LOL)

I have no idea about a National Historic Park, though. There are a
few near me that are placed in such locations....most with the
caretaker's knowledge and permission.

Happy trails,
Kerri

It is against NPS policy so it is effectively illegal. The NPS
prefers logging, mining, and drilling in their parks as letterboxing
can negatively affect the environment.

Don't forget snowmobiling, and in water parks, jet skis. All EXCELLENT for the environment. Just be sure to keep those environmental hazards, letterboxes, out of our National Parks.

There are some letterboxers that mask clues, code clues and create
mystery boxes. If a National Park is used in the title of a clue
sheet it probably will not last long unless the NPS folks in charge
of the park look the other way. If you use any prominent location in
a title of a letterbox and clue sheet, that clue sheet can be
located by google. This can be true for any letterbox that is posted
on the LBNA site, unless you have your own web site and have blocked
this function. I am not promoting National Park plantings, but there
are some that have been planted and have not been discovered by our
big brother. The google site can pose other problems as well. We
have had folks find our clue sheets on google and write us asking
what the heck it was. If someone with a streak on meaness picks up
clue sheets, would they pick up letterboxes?

Yeah, I get all kinds of crazy emails asking for stuff like 1930s
prisoner information due to my Folsom Prison box.

Me, too! I get forwarded links to paranormal websites due to
the 'interesting' ethereal history behind the WA Territorial Insane
Asylum--a structure where I placed one of my first letterboxes. Boo!
